ABOUT GENESIS HOUSE
Genesis House is a fourteen bed, co-ed shelter for youth ages 16-20 run by the Salvation Army. Genesis House provides case management services, life skills training and after care. Youth can stay there for up to 30 days while they work on family reunification or if necessary, independent living.
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Genesis House accepts volunteers to come and hang out with the youth in the evenings. The first Thursday of each month a group led by Northidge's Leanne Andre goes to eat, bake, plays games or kickball with the youth at the house. It’s great time to build relationships with the youth and live Pi2.
Volunteers can also make hygiene or cleaning kits for you who leave Genesis House to go to their own apartment for the first time. Basic hygiene and cleaning supplies are super-appreciated. Contact Leanne for a specific list of recommended items.
